William Gordon Brown, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC and St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 11, 2007, after a brief illness. He was born in Wilmington, Del., and graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., and Northwestern University. He proudly served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. After his military service, he worked for Montgomery Ward and Spiegel in Chicago, Ill., and was a member of Moody Memorial Church and First Baptist Church. Mr. Brown and his family moved to Largo, Fla., in 1951 and then to St. Petersburg where he was self-employed as a tax accountant and owned the firm W. Gordon Brown & Associates in downtown St. Petersburg. Mr. Brown moved to Winston-Salem in June 2006 and lived with his daughter, after the death of his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Brown. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William Darius Brown and Jessie Ruth Long Brown; and his sister, Vera Ruth Brown McDonald. Survivors include his brother, two daughters, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Wheaton College.
