NORTH ANSON, ME -- Ira W. Adley, 75, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at his home in North Anson.
Born April 17, 1934 in Phillips, Maine, the eldest son of Lawrence (Jim) and Mary E. Adley.
Ira served in the Army and often joked he could still recall his military number with ease.
Ira was probably best known for his profession as a diesel mechanic. He worked at the North Anson Reel Mill, then for SD Warren/Scott Paper at the Scott Garage in Bingham and at the Marshall Yard, Johnson Mountain until his retirement.
Ira enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees. He was tickled to see the Bo Sox win the World Series.
Ira was predeceased by his wife Irene and daughter Roxanne.
He is survived by his sons Clair Adley and wife Brenda of Wilton, and James Adley and wife Mary of Embden; daughters, Matilda Adley of Wilton, Mary Hoskins and Alice Bigelow and husband Larry of North Anson. Ira is also survived by several grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Alice and Larry would like to deeply thank Dr. Melody Pratt, for if it was not for her, we would never have been able to care for Ira in our home all these years. Thank you for all your help and support.
As per Ira's request no services will be held. You may pay your respects privately at the Sunset Cemetery, in North Anson. Cremation arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
