Samuel was the son of Jesse and Elizabeth Johnson Barger...Father of Granville, Franklin, Samuel and William by Sarah Ann Davidson daughter of Perry and Elizabeth Burns Davidson...Sam was a well known raconteur, fiddle player. card player and ladies man...He was playing the fiddle at the Inn-Fair held on the head of Buffalo Creek in Owsley County for the wedding of Jesse and Sally Collins Turner, when he was shot and killed...Jesse Spurlock, a cousin of Sam's and a good friend was with Sam that evening and was shot at several times but got away unharmed...
