Obituary from funeral home memorial folder:
ORAH DORCAS STEPHENSON MORRIS was born on April 14, 1905 in Taloga, OK. She was the third of seven children born to Omer and Myrtle Stephenson.
Orah became a child of God and an heir to the Kingdom of Heaven by the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Orah spent her earlier years in the wide open spaces of Oklahoma near Altus and Blair, OK. She lived with her family on cotton farms and she would join her whole family picking cotton. They would weigh the cotton after it was picked and Orah would add a few rocks to the cotton so it would weight more.
At the age of 13 Orah's mother died and she moved to Thurmond, Iowa, outside of Council Bluffs where she graduated from High School. There in Iowa she lived with her cousin, Dr. Harold and his wife, Pearl Cole. It was in this medical doctor's home that Orah became interested in Nursing. Orah went to Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, for training as a nurse. She advanced her nursing career by doing post graduate study at hospitals in Chicago and Minneapolis before practicing obstetrical nursing in a Kansas City hospital.
Upon visiting her sister, Opal, and vacationing with her in Yosemite - Orah decided California was the place for her and she moved to San Francisco. She worked at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco when on Dec. 15, 1940 - at the outbreak of WW II she joined the Army Nurse Corp. She worked at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, before being appointed Assistant Chief Nurse of Army Air Force Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida. Many V.I.P.'s went through the hospital which was a conversion of the Miami Biltmore Hotel. From there Orah was Chief Nurse at Morris Field - Charlotte, NC, where she received a soldiers medal of honor for saving another nurse in a fire at the air base. She also served in Hawaii before being discharged from the Army in 1947.
Back in San Francisco Orah met Norman Morris and married him on March 14, 1948. Orah supported Norm in his insurance business, traveling with him on business. They first settled in San Francisco in an apartment on Willard and Parnassis Streets. In 1966 Norm and Orah moved to San Bruno. They were married for 25 years until Norm died in 1973.
Orah was a lover of people. She was a very active person who enjoyed swimming, horseback riding, and eating. She was an avid reader and had a desire to write a book.
Although she had no children of her own, she loved children and adopted her nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews as her own. She would volunteer to baby sit for free?
Orah joined Calvary Lutheran Church in 1975. She loved sewing with our Dorcas Circle and for many years made and served cookies at Calvary's fellowship time after worship on Sunday mornings. Orah was also a member and active in A.A.R.P. and the San Bruno Senior Citizens group.
Orah has struggled with her health over the past year. In August she suffered a fainting spell and was hospitalized several times in the last months. On Tuesday night, November 27, the Lord released her from the suffering. Orah would have us trust in the promise of Jesus resurrection victory.
Orah is survived by two sisters - Blanch King and Opal Fontaine, Opal's husband - Jack; five nephews John, Stephen, Mitch Fontaine, Omer and Bob Stephenson; 2 nieces - Joanne Hundley and Camille Colley; 13 grandnieces and grandnephews; and many other relatives and friends."
