LouVerna Manis Carter was the daughter of Malin A. Manis (b. 20 Jan. 1851 d. ?) and Sarah Elizabeth Hilton Manis (b. 20 May 1848 d. ?). She married Andrew Jackson "Jack" Carter on August 18, 1901 in Hawkins County, TN. She was a member of the Beech Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Pumpkin Valley until her death where her husband was the pastor and later the moderator.

LouVerna and Jack were the parents of ten children:

Mandy Elizabeth Carter Jones b. 20 March 1903 d. 12 June 1972.
Ora Mazella "Zella" Carter Cook b. 2 Jan. 1901 d. 16 April 2002.

Rev. Willard Harvey Carter b. 15 Sept. 1918, d. 4 Aug. 2013.
Lillian Betty Carter Gibson b. 29 Dec. 1921, d. 5 Mar. 1987.
Bertha Inez Carter Nelson b. 15 Nov. 1925, d. 5 Jan. 2011.

In an effort to make money to support the family farm in Pumpkin Valley, the family moved around to follow work which was common at the time. In 1919 they moved to Clifton, SC to work in the cotton mills that were springing up all over the southern USA and that is where their child Loranza Dow Carter died and was buried. They also lived for awhile in Kingsport, TN during the 1920s while the older family members worked at the Borden Mill cotton mill which was of the area's largest employers at the time before Tennessee Eastman expanded.

LouVerna spent her latter years assisting her husband in his ministry.

She along with her husband are buried in the old Jones Cemetery which is immediately across the Hancock County line in Pumpkin Valley. It is located just inside the woods across a field on the left side of the road.
