Lloyd Leroy Hamer, son of Delbert Leroy and Iva May Arnold Hamer, was born November 27, 1920, in Horace, Nebraska. He departed this life Tuesday, November 11, 2008, in St. John's Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months, and fourteen days.
On October 18, 1945, he was united in marriage to Selma Leuda Reese, and to this union two daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Chester and Dale Hamer; and three sisters, Evelyn Mock, Martha Mock, and Wilma Ravilous.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Selma, of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Hunt, and her husband, Richard, of McKinney, Texas, and Diane Giese, and her husband, Ken, of Rockwall, Texas; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hunt, Justin Hunt, Ben Doolin, and Abigail Doolin; three great-grandchildren, Milla Hunt, Bradley Hunt, and Luke Doolin; a brother, Wilbur Hamer, of Birch Tree, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born in Nebraska and then moved with his family to Missouri when he was eight years old. He graduated from Mountain View High School in Mountain View, Missouri, in the Class of 1939. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from January 21, 1942 until October 16, 1945, during World War II. After he and Selma were married, they made their home in Elyria, Ohio, while Lloyd worked at the Elyria Telephone Company for a few years. In 1950, he began a career in civil service work, first in Decatur, Illinois, and then, after moving to Lebanon, Missouri in 1961, at Fort Leonard Wood. At the time of his retirement following thirty-two years of service, he was the communications manager for the Fort.
Lloyd was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon. He served on the Lebanon City Council from 1995 until 2005, and was a member of the Personnel Board and the Police Board during those years. He also was instrumental in the development of the Veteran's memorial at Cowan Civic Center, and worked on that committee for several years.
In his spare time he enjoyed doing woodworking projects and had a multitude of abilities to do many things. He enjoyed caring for his yard and tending to his garden. He was a very concerned person and believed in being of help to others. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated community leader, a patriotic citizen, and a good friend.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday November 14, 2008 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in Veterans Circle at Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 pm Thursday evening under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church. Donations may be made through the funeral home.
