Mrs. Susan Armstrong departed this life on Tuesday, April 1, 1902, at her home in Brooksburg, IN.
She was a good woman and will be missed by those who had for a long while visited her almost daily. Many times have I had long talks with her during the last winter of her stay on earth, concerning her spiritual welfare and I found that her trust was in the Lord, and that she was calmly and patiently waiting for the Lord to call her from labor to reward. She often told me that she prayed when she had to cross the death river that the voyage would not be long nor painful, and I think her prayer was answered, for I was with her in her last hours, and to me it seemed as if her boat glided into a haven of rest with muffled oars. I do not think we should mourn for friends who were so wiling and ready to go as she was. She told her friends to meet her in heaven.
In early life she was a member of the Methodist church, but she moved into a neighborhood where the Baptist church was the only one and she felt that she must have a church home, so she united with the Baptist church, of which she was a consistent member up to the time of her death. Let us all strive to imitate the example of patience she set before us during her long time of suffering.
She was born in Carroll County, KY, in February, 1829, and was 73 years old at the time of her death. M.H.
