John W. Adkisson. 89. of Bellair died at 3 a.m. Monday, June 22 at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, with Bro. James Rue officiating. Burial will be in the Casey-Cumberland Cemetery, Casey. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born January 2, 1909 in Licking Township, Crawford County, the son of Harmon and Maggie (Payne) Adkisson. He married Florence Crandall on April 6, 1935, and she survives.

Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Greg Parrott of rural Robinson; three grandchildren, Mrs. Tom (Roseellen) Osborn of Terre Haute, Ind., Mrs. Matt (Amber) Kramme of Champaign and Johnathan Parrott of rural Robinson; a sister and brother-in-law, Fannie and Virgil Griffith of Greenup; a sister-in-law, Vera Adkisson of Tuscola; two nephews, Earl Adkisson of Atwood and Jerry Adkisson of Tuscola; two nieces, Carolyn Ripley of Robinson and Joan Hills of Martinsville and in-laws, Paul and Rose Penrod and Fred and Faith Crandall of Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Homer Adkisson; two sisters, Allie Price and Ruby Bline; a niece, Mary Willis and a nephew, Cleon Geffs.

Mr. Adkisson was a farmer. He was a good steward of the soil practicing crop rotation and maintaining soil fertility. He was a member of the Bellair Church of Christ and was baptized on November 3, 1926. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for as long as his health permitted. He graduated from O.T.H.S. in 1929 and was a member of the First Soil & Water Conservation Service Committee in Crawford County. In 1940, John worked as a Community representative to bring electricity to rural areas. He served on the Board of Directors for Norris Electric Cooperative for 46 years. He was a Licking Township Supervisor for 8 years and also became Chairman for the reorganization of schools in Crawford County. He was a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau and was active in maintaining the Bellair Community Center. He was always willing to give freely of his services to promote worthwhile projects in his community.

John Wilford was the son of Harmon Elphus & Maggie May (Payne) Adkisson. He married Florence Ella Crandall 6 Apr. 1935.
