Born in Sheldon, S.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Ford.
Ethel was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past seven years. Prior to that she resided in the Irvington, N.J., and Bronx, N.Y., areas, and she spent her early years in the Harlem, N.Y., area.
She worked as a maid for many years in the New York City area. She was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She is survived by three sons, Eugene Atwood and his wife, Eleanor, of Stroudsburg, Rudy Atwood of Bronx, N.Y., and Donald Atwood of Bloomfield, N.J.; three daughters, Annette Burke and her husband, Michael, of Bronx, N.Y., Evie Atwood of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Khadijah Boutte of Reading Calif.; six grandchildren, Umar, Cid, Nicole, Rahmel, Christopher and Tiffany; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Christian, Elijah and Isaac; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Juanita Atwood and Barbara Atwood.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, from the Pula and Bensing Funeral Home, 23 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, N.Y.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the funeral home.
