Decorah C. R. Ammon, 83, formerly of Decorah, died Monday in Los Angeles , where he had lived 35 years. Chauncey Ammon was born in Decorah, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ammon. His family operated the old stone mill here and made plows and tractors here. Mr. Ammon also was credited with operating the first flour mill in Estherville. His wife is the former Ada Hughes, sister of Frank Hughes of Decorah. (Mason City Globe-Gazette, Mason City, IA, July 16, 1943)

Chauncey Ammon is Not Dead
Miss Dorothy Klopp who resides at the home of her cousin, Chauncey Ammon in Brentwood Heights , Calif. , has written Mrs. J. E. Stockdale that the report circulated in the local and state papers to the effect that Mr. Ammon had passed away is not true. Mr. Ammon is very weak from the infirmities of his years, but his condition is "as usual." (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 22, 1943)
