Pilot of B17F, named "Vertical Shaft." A/C serial number 42-29956. Crashed at 1430 hrs near St Goarshausen Germany on its 9th mission. Member of 544 Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group. 18 bombers assigned to mission bombing Schweinfurt, 5 bombers were lost on mission. MACR #296.1LT Hausenfluck and 2LT MacKenzie were both lost in explosion as they were wounded and holding the aircraft level for the crew to bail out.

Awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
