Maurice's father John died in 1904, and by 1910, Maurice had moved out West and was working as a rancher. His younger brother Jack later joined him and settled near him.
Maurice married Ruby Valentine Fox, 24 December 1913 in Gillette, Campbell, Wyoming. They settled in Lodge Grass, Montana and owned a ranch. Maurice also operated a dray line there. They had two sons and five grandchildren.
