Kristen was a passenger and died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident for which the driver was intoxicated.
The true story of Kristen Umstadter's life and death was depicted in the book authored by Michael Dorman titled "Blood and Revenge," and also on the TV show "City Confidential."
Kristen was looking forward to starting college in the fall. She was the golden girl who had graduated senior class president, an academic star, the homecoming queen, mainstay of the student council, a cross-country runner, the French Club president, a Sunday school teacher, and a founder of the local chapter of Students Against Drunk Driving. Bright, engaging, popular, ambitious, she was a beautiful blonde with sapphire eyes and deep dimples. One local official described her as "the kind of girl every father hopes his son will bring home someday." Unfortunately, no one will ever know.
Kristen was beautiful inside and out. She was known by many in our town who said she had great potential. I once lived near a family member and often heard wonderful stories about her. I wish I had had the opportunity to know her, but I was only around five or six years old. Her family is strong in their faith and they know she is resting peacefully in God's love. I wanted to honor her memory for all who loved her and also bring attention to the abuse of alcohol. Make responsible decisions. Please don't drink and drive.
I hope Kristen, and her loved ones, are pleased with this tribute.
