Birth: 1836
Death: Dec. 28, 1916

Born in County Carlow, Ireland; moved to America, at the age of eight, with his family; later enlisted in the Union Army, during the Civil War; left the United States for New Zealand, and then Australia, in 1864; moved to Gobur, in the state of Victoria, Australia, during the gold rush there; married Julia Marie Joyce, in 1870; worked in several small towns in Victoria, including Alexandra, Euroa and Yea; after the death of his wife at Yea, in 1908, he returned to Gobur and resided with his son, James L. Brennan, at whose home he passed away, in 1916. [From the original research of the late Roy Parker of Sydney, with contributions by Barry Crompton of Melbourne and Bob Simpson of Beechworth, Victoria, and published, in 2000, in the volume, CIVIL WAR VETERANS IN AUSTRALIA, edited by Roy's daughter, Mrs. Virginia Crocker.][Although one very inaccurate web site claims that this Michael Brennan had served in the 155th New York Infantry, pension records for this soldier shows that he, in fact, died in the United States, and is buried there.]
