Leonard was born in Pyzdsy Poland and emmigrated to the U.S. sometime between 1900 and 1909. According to his daughter Rita, he ran away from home at a young age and worked his way aboard traveling ships to the United States.
He settled in Chicago, where he married his 17 year old bride Regina Ostrowski. Leonard was a baker by trade and owned several bakeries on the south side of Chicago. One such bakery was located on 55th st. between Western and California streets and is now a Mexican Bakery.
Leonard and Regina had four children, Loretta, Arthur, Rita and Leonard Jr. Unfortunately, Regina developed diabetes and died at the age of 29, in 1927.
Leonard married again in 1929 to Maryann (Marie) Rutkowski. Together they had one child, a daughter, Dolores Kubacki, born June 23, 1930.
Leonard and Maryann divorced some 10 or so years later.
Leonard spent time living in South Bend Indiana for a while with a lady love named Elsie. They never married so she could continue to recieve her husbands social security. Leonard died in Chicago in 1968.
He was fondly called Koboosh and Ja-Ja, by his grandchildren.
