Ellis was a AVN ( aviation ) Cadet killed in a training exercise and was buried on the day he was to receive his wings. He "enlisted" at Ft Douglas on June 11, 1943, most likely was at training facility at San Antonio, Texas, they handled the Air Corps with units getting ready to move overseas.

Aviation Cadet, 2542 Base Unit, Blackland Army Airfield, Waco, Texas.--Killed in service on this date 70 years ago, piloting AT-10BH #41-1737, in a crash, twelve miles north of the airfield. AVC Quinn L. McKelvey also perished.
