HAMPTON - Frank "Tony" Andrew Anthony, 77, passed away Friday, March 8, 2002, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Richmond, Tony graduated from John Marshall High School. He then entered the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Navy veteran of World War II, Tony continued to serve his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve where he retired as a Lt. Commander.
He attended the University of Virginia Law School before moving to Hampton in 1953, where he founded Mechanical Projects Incorporated. His company handled the mechanical engineering projects for NASA Langley. He was also responsible for pioneering and building the research and development park opposite NASA Langley. He owned and operated Hampton Roads Marina from 1969 to 1996 and served as past Commodore of the Hampton Yacht Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
