Peter B. Christensen 1866-1940
Peter B. Christensen, retired farmer, passed away suddenly at the home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 8th, as the result of a heart attack. He had been in his usual good health. Mr. Christensen was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Peter Christensen of Denmark, April 17, 1866, and passed away at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 21 days. He came to the United States in 1879, and made his home with an aunt and uncle at Minonk, Illinois. He was married July 24, 1896, to Anna Sierks of Bigelow, Minnesota, where they made their home until 1912, when they moved to Walnut. Surviving are his beloved wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Albus, of Rock Falls; five sons, Harry of Sterling, Ernest, Bart, Jesse and Herbert, of Walnut; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Fisher and Miss Christine Christensen of Kiel, Germany. His father and mother and one sister, Marie, preceded him in death many years ago. Funeral services were held from the home October 11th, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. W. T. Street, pastor of the Walnut Methodist church, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Harry Bolz and Miss Joan Ross, with Mrs. Gifford Wheeler, accompanist. Casket attendants were Elmer Langford, Wm. P. Frederick, W. J. Fisher, Otto Kihlstrom, C. W. Dimmig and Howard Smith. Interment was in Walnut cemetery.

Note: Peter Beier Christensen was the son of Hans Peter Moller Christensen and Maren "Maria" Petersen. Original church/parish documents from Denmark show that he was born on 16 Apr 1866 at Rise, Aabenraa (Åbenrå), Denmark. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Rise, Åbenrå, Danmark on 27 Feb 1881. He later immigrated to the U.S. about 1882. After his arrival in the U.S., he spent some time living and working with his uncle, Barthol Peterson, in Livingston County, Illinois where, on 19 Aug 1887, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.
