Peabody. Donald L. Abbott, Sr., 76, husband of Lorraine (Bouchie) Abbott of Peabody, died Friday at Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Peabody, son of the late Lincoln L. and Mary (Snell) Abbott.

Employed 40 years in the heat treating department at the General Electric Riverside Works Aircraft Group, Building No. 74, in Lynn until his retirement in 1981.
During WWII, he served as a T/4 in the U.S.Army and saw combat in northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes with Co."E", 328th Infantry Division and was wounded on Jan 17, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal,Victory Medal. AM Theater Campaign, European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon.

He was past national commander of the Yankee Division Veterans Association, past commander of the North Shore Chapter Y.D.V.A. and the Peabody's veterans Counciol. He was a life member of the D.A.V.Chapter 100 and V.P.W. Fidelity Post 1011, both in Peabody, the American Legion Post 290, Boston; Military Order of the Purple Heart and the French Croix de Guerre.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, fixing cars and different projects around his home.

He is survived by his wife, with whom he shared 44 yearsof marriage, he is survived by a son, Donald L. Abbott,Jr. of Middleton; two daughters, Mary "Sue" Lewalski and June M. Snyder; a sister, Margaret "Shirley" Downey; six grandchildrenHeather & Meagan Abbott, Ted & George Lewalski, Tanya & Lisa Snyder; several nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late Evelyn S. McKeering. His funeral was held from the Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, S. Peabodt. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
