Esther Anderson, 87, of Darfur, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital, St. James.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at West Sveadahl Lutheran Church, rural St. James. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. at Pease Funeral Home, St. James, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; son, LeRoy and wife, Marion Anderson of New Ulm; daughter, DeLores Kleinow and husband, Raymond of Burnsville; eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Irene Anderson of St. James, Violet Anderson of rural Butterfield and Stella Carlson of Mountain Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Harry, Embert and Carl; sisters, Olga, Hilma and Myrtle and a great-granddaughter, Amanda.

She was born March 31, 1913, in Adrian Township, Watonwan County, daughter of Carl and Malena (Lena) Carlson. She attended District 40 school in Darfur. She married J. Walter Anderson on Jan. 9, 1933, in Comfrey. They lived in Sveadahl for several years, then moved to a farm near Darfur in 1938, then into Darfur in 1958. She was a member of West Sveadahl Lutheran Church, serving in the ladies group of the church and as Sunday school teacher. She also was a driver for senior citizens in the Darfur area for several years.
