Alwyn Kenneth (Ken) Cross

PLEASANT VIEW - Alwyn Kenneth Cross passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, on November 23, 2011. He was born on February 12, 1926 to Alfred "Goog" Cross and Thelma E. Thon Cross in Ogden, Utah. Ken met his only love, Beverly June Potter while attending Gonzaga University. They were married on July 17, 1946 in Spokane, Washington and they have been married 65 years.
Ken proudly served in the Navy in both WWII from 1944-1946, and the Korean War from 1950 to 1951.
He and Bev were faithful supporters of the Crystal Cathedral and they attended Elim Lutheran Church.
Ken began his career at age 12, working in the Canvas Department at the family business, C.W. Cross Company. He and Bev purchased the business following his father's death in 1962. They changed the name to Cross Western Wear which he operated for many years in down town Ogden.
Ken enjoyed sponsorship and preservation of the western legacy and lifestyle. He served as chairman and committee member of Ogden Pioneer Days Committee for over 25 years and he also sponsored and organized the Miss Rodeo Utah Pageant. Ken also served as National Director for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant and served for two years as president of Miss Rodeo America. Ken and Bev were Grand Marshalls of the Ogden Pioneer Days in 1985.
Ken is survived by his wife Beverly; two sons, Anthony Kent "Tony" (Susan) Cross of Pleasant View and Craig Russell (Pam) Cross of Huntsville; and four grandchildren, Whit Cross, Kallee (Sonny) Munns, Kylar Cross and Kenyon Cross.
Memorial services will be held at Elim Lutheran Church, 575 - 23rd St., Ogden on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. The family will meet with friends prior from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may sent in Ken's name to the Hospice for Northern Utah Foundation, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden, UT 84404.
