Died: 03-17-2008 Florence Armstrong, the youngest and the last surviving child of Winfield Scott and Cora Vaughan Armstrong, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008, after a period of declining health.
She was 85 years old. Florence graduated from Rogersville High School and earned her teaching credentials from Hiwassee College in 1942. She retired from Citizens Union Bank as a senior vice president in 1987. She was a life-long member of Rogersville First United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer for over 48 years, taught the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class until her health began to fail, and was active in the church choir. She was a 50+ Year member of the Hasson Chapter No. 179 Order of the Eastern Star and twice served as Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Rogersville Heritage Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Clinton Armstrong, Robert Fink Armstrong, Clayton Powell Armstrong, Paul Edward Armstrong (WWII) and her sisters, Francis Emerson, Winnie Scott Price, Eula Kate Wohlwend, and Lois Armstrong.
She is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20th, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. with Rev. Malcolm Wansley officiating. An Eastern Star graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21st at McKinney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rogersville First United Methodist Church, 110 Colonial Road, Rogersville; to the Hawkins County Humane Society, 5180 Hwy 11W, Rogersville; to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Rd., Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601; or to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
