E. Romelda Reece Allen, age 74, went home on Monday, July 17, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Romelda was born in Kingsport, in the 1008 block of Riverside Avenue, and lived there most of her life except a short time in California. She was the youngest of five daughters born to the later Elizabeth Barnette Reece and Emory Mike Reece. She moved to Church Hill in 1980. She was a born-again Christian and was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Tennessee Eastman, Munal Clinic, Holston Valley Hospital, and was employed with the City of Kingsport as a nurse when she retired due to her health.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Allen (USN – Ret.); four sisters, Dorothy Brown, Margaret (Raymond) Forbes, Alberta (Paul) Dickens Fleming (Emza), and Helen (Monk) Eaton Morton; brother, Robert J. (Bob) Reece; two nephews, Billy Wayne Reece and Chris Fleming; two dear aunts, Una Eaton and Nettie Barnette; second mom and dad, Cornie Linkous (Earl) King; and lots of dear friends and relatives.
She is survived by her brother, Billy Joe Reece, Kingsport; brother-in-law, Floyd Brown; two lifelong friends and dear sisters-in-law, Edna Reece and Bonnie Reece; adopted brother, Richard (Bobbie) McFarland and family; Larry (Geneva) King; Frank (Opal) Vaughn; adopted sisters, Ruth Fair Meade, Norma (Paul) Chestnutt, Charlotte (Dave) Hodges; June Wagner, Agnes Kinley, Wilma Finney, Joan Bailey (Joe) Tate; Nieces, Clara Ann Reece, the niece I grew up with and who has been my rock during my illness, (Jim) Mintz and family, Kingsport, dear niece, Connie Brown, Church Hill, Amanda Reece, North Carolina, Linda Forbes, Pennsylvania, Janet Forbes (Randy) Swanson and Trap, Pennsylvania; nephews, Mike Brown, Church Hill, Rodger Reece, Kingsport, Mike Forbes (Mary) and family, Pennsylvania, Danny Forbes (Sandy) and family, Pennsylvania, Gary Forbes, Pennsylvania, Jeff Fleming, Knoxville, Eddie George Shaw, Virginia; eleven great nieces and nephews; dear and special cousins, Margaret Reece (E.L.) Miller and family, Elizabeth Reece (Walter) Lane and family, Macie Wallen Crawford, Jack Barnette (Maureen) and family, Gene (Carol) Barnette and family, Indiana, Elizabeth Barnette (Bob) Moore, Indiana, Rev. Harlan (Vickie) Barnette and family, Indiana, the Curtis Reece family; all cousins attending the Wallen and Barnette reunion, noting how much they were enjoyed; and dear cousin Lisa Barnette (Dave) Morelock, who started it all.
God has been so good to me. He also sent me lots of angels; my great and dear neighbors, Glenda and Kenneth Tate, Brenda and Gary Sizemore, Tonya and Brian Tate and their three children (my three "sweeties"); Edna (Lawrence) Hatcher and daughters, Linda Skelton, Margarie and Rev. Ronnie Grimes and families; the late Maude and Landon Eaton and family; the late Wiley and Agnes Vaughn; my rock for several years, Norma (H.K.) Stapleton, Trey and Bobbie Joe; my good friend, Paula Kendrick, all my friends on Riverside Avenue, West View, West View School, Sullivan High and Nursing; my red wagon buddy, W.S. Edens, my wonderful Pastor, Mike Stout, and my church family at West View Missionary Baptist Church. Each one holds a special place in my heart and gave me lots of great memories.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Services will be at 7:00 PM in the Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Stout, Rev. Harlan Barnette, and Rev. Bill Ball officiating. Music will be provided by the Barnette Family, great-nephew, David Mintz, and dear friend, James Jenkins, who will sing one of Conway Twitty's songs.) The family will have visitation on Thursday, July 20, 2006 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with committal service at 12:00 in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.

I want to thank each and every one of you for the flowers, gifts, cards, food, calls, and prayers. Each was very much appreciated. My thanks also to Dr. Daryl Pierce, Dr. London, Dr. Brock, and their staff for the love and support they have given me.
