"Pedro 'Pete' Acevido, Sr.
Pedro 'Pete' Acevido, Sr., passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at home in Escondido, Calif., surrounded by his family. Pete was born in Douglas, Arizona on February 17, 1925. At the age of 17, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and at the age of 25, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. He served our country during the Korean Conflict for which he was awarded the Korean Service Medal along with two Bronze Service Stars and an Occupation Medal. In July of 1953, he was honorably discharged. Pete married Lupe Lopez in 1956 and together they raised three children and two stepchildren. Although they divorced in 1967, they remained lifelong friends until her passing in 2008. Pete was employed by the E.U.S.D. as a maintenance worker and retired 20 years later in 1987. During this time, he met his partner, Angie Miranda. They spent 30 years together until she lost her battle with cancer in 1997. After his retirement in 1987, Pete's passion for being outdoors and staying busy led to his continued career in yard maintenance for his family and the many friends he met over the years, finally retiring at 85 years young. He is survived by his three children, two stepchildren, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, one sister and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Resurrection Church in Escondido at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, with graveside services immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Escondido."
