Birth: Nov., 1835
Carlisle
Cumbria, England
Death: 1914
Nebraska, USA

Mary Ann Ward married James Armstrong in the mid- or late 1850s, possibly in Cumberland, England. With her husband and (then) seven children, she immigrated to the United States, arriving on 23 May 1870 on the S. S. Europa in New York. Later that year, the family was enumerated in Bellflower Township, McLean County, Illinois, where James Armstrong was a farmer on his land worth $1,200.

After her husband's death in 1877, Mary Ann Armstrong married John Nichol, a Scottish- born farmer in McLean County. The couple had a daughter, Anna, and moved to Nebraska in the early 1880s. Their marriage ended in divorce.
