Frank V. Andrello, 83, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2007. He was born October 14, 1923 in Utica, the son of the late Michael and Stella Mascaro Andrello and was educated in Utica schools. Mr. Andrello was a Staff Sergeant with the US Marine Corps during WWII. While in the service, he attended engineering school for water purification and distillation. For 29 months, Mr. Andrello was stationed in the South Pacific, where he participated in the invasion of Tarawa, the Samoan Islands, the Ellis Group and the Gilbert Campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On November 10, 1945 at St. Agnes Church, Utica, he married Marian E. Fragetta, a devoted union of over 61 years. She passed away on March 8th of this year. Mr. Andrello worked in the textile industry for many years and managed multiple textile companies throughout the area. He was later employed as a Chief State Inspector for the New York State Racing Association, assigned to the Vernon Downs Race Track. In 1995, he retired as the manager of the City of Utica Sign Shop. Mr. Andrello was a longtime political figure in the City of Utica and the County of Oneida. For 14 years, he served as a City of Utica Councilman, 8 of which were as the Majority Leader. From 1981-1995, he served as an Oneida County Legislator. Mr. Andrello loved Utica and was very active in his community. He directed and participated in many minstrel shows for various charities, coached little league baseball and along with his wife, enjoyed many happy vacations to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He was a parishioner and usher of St. Agnes Church and also attended St. Anthony of Padua Church. Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Rufus Ventura, Jr. of New Hartford; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jean (Parr) Andrello of Utica; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Henry Della Gala of Utica; five grandchildren and their spouses, Frank and Jean Andrello of Whitesboro, Amy Setlak of Utica, Rufus (RJ) Ventura and his fiancee, Renee LiBritz of New Hartford, Nina Joy Ventura of Utica, and Amy and Mark Bentz of Deansboro; and five great-grandchildren, Harry, Gwen, Lilly, Maria and Max. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Andrello. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, with Military Honors, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. There are no public calling hours. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of both the Birch and Elm Wings of the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, especially Ann, Sandy and Duane for all their wonderful care and compassion.
