Jean was born the daughter of Virgil & Helen (Hall) Van Dusen. She grew up near Tyler where she attended school graduating from the Tyler High School in 1958. Jean was united in marriage to Marvin Ahlschlager on December 13, 1958 in Tyler. After their marriage they lived in Slayton until 1959, when they moved to Iona. Jean remained at their home after Marvin passed away in April of 1996. She worked at the US Post office in Iona over the years but loved being a mother and homemaker. Jean passed away at the Slayton Golden Living Center at the age of 74. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton where she belonged to the ladies aid and served as treasurer. She also volunteered at the Golden Living Center. Jean enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, camping and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children, Mike (Linda) Ahlschlager, Rick (Holly) Ahlschlager, Donald (Karen) Ahlschlager, Deb (Dana) Gulbrandson, Brian (Martha) Ahlschlager, and Scott (Lynette) Ahlschlager; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ahlschlager, and Mary Ahlschlager and brother-in-law, Harlan (Lois) Ahlschlager. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant brother, James.

Funeral services were held from Trinity Lutheran Church Slayton, MN on February 23, 2015 with Rev. Doug Minton officiating.
