Herman J. Anderson was born in Westergotland, Sweden, to Jacob and Lottie (Swenson) Anderson. In 1869 Herman came to America with his parents. On their arrival they came directly to Kansas, where they established their home in Riley County.
He married Mary Isaacson on October 1, 1885. To this union five children were born: Edward, William, Elmer, Mabel and Alice. Alice died at the age of nine months.
In 1887 they moved to a farm in the Cottage Hill Community and there Herman farmed for the next 44 years. Mary preceded Herman's death on Jan. 21, 1916.
Those that survive are his four children; Edward, William, and Elmer of Waterville, KS., and Mabel Roepke of Barnes, KS. There are also 10 grandchildren, one brother, Aaron of Manhattan and other relatives.
