Warren Man Ends Life By Hanging
Hiram Adsit, 32, manager of the McFarren five and ten cent store at Warren, ended his life by hanging at his home about 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. No motive was assigned other that possibly worry over his physical condition.
A report of the tragedy from Warren related that Adsit left the store and went to his home about mid-afternoon and his lifeless body was discovered by his wife when she went to the residence a short time later. It was stated that she had no suspicions of his purpose, as there had been nothing in his conduct to indicate he contemplated such an act. He was reported, however, to have appeared of an extremely nervous temperament recently.
The body was found suspended from the banister of a stairway. A small rope, described as twine such as is customarily used to tie heavy merchandise packages had been used. No message of any kind was discovered.
A dispatch later, stated that the widow said he had been despondent over disposition of the store.
Adsit had served about 18 months in the U. S. navy as an electrician third class and saw active service in the South Pacific, including the Okinawa area. He received his honorable discharge in December and returned to accept a position in the store. He had been serving as manager since the sudden death of his father-in-law, Earl McFarren, formerly of Bluffton, a few months ago. He was a graduate of the Warren high school with the class of 1931.
He was a member of the Warren Methodist church and of the Warren post of the American Legion.
Born at Geneva, June 12, 1913, the decedent was a son of Clarence and Emma Barnes Adsit. His marriage to Mary Jane McFarren took place at Warren, Sept. 8, 1931.
Survivors include the widow; two small children, Hiram Jr., and Mary Emma; the mother and a sister, Miss Anna Adsit, both of Warren.
The body was removed to the Brown & Son funeral home and will be taken this evening to the home of the mother, Mrs. Emma Adsit, and funeral services will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Thursday, in charge of Rev. L. M. Hile. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
