Vesper, Jan. 9—Christian Al-
wardt, 74, died Jan. 2 at the home
of his son-in-law August F. Kohls,
south of Arpin, after a brief illness
with influenza.
Deceased was born in Meckelburg,
Germany, Nov. 14, 1854 where he
grew to manhood. While still in the
old country he was married to Al-
wine Buss and came with her to the
United States in 1881. He resided in
Manitowoc for two years after which
he lived in Watertown, Wis., for a
year, then moving to Kansas. In
1906 he bought a small farm in the
town of Hansen, Wood county. He
lived there until September, 1921
when his wife died. Since that time
he has made his home with his son-
in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
