She moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1967. Throughout the years Shirley liked to spend much of her time with her sister, Lois, and her husband Merle Pickrel and friend Elwood Copland. They enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and happy hour at Smoe’s Bar. One of the passions of her life was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.
Shirley spent several years with the love of her life, Leonard Melman. Leonard and Shirley ran the Dew Drop Inn in Sioux Falls for many years until Leonard’s passing.
Shirley spent much of her free time playing cards and watching Netflix as well as spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was proceeded in death by her sisters; Lois Pickrel, Lorraine Parish, and Dorothy Antijunti, her daughter Twyla Gustafson and son Kevin Olson. Still in the memories of her brother, Ken Gartzke, daughter Dawn Cheskey and son Ricky Olson.

A small marker and part of her ashes are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD along side her parents.
