Birth: Mar. 12, 1937
Death: May 30, 1999

Richard P. Glovka, 62, a partner in the Chicago law office of Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon who practiced in the area of commercial litigation, died of a heart attack Sunday while on a bicycle ride in Galena.

Mr. Glovka was born in Clinton, Iowa, but had lived in the Chicago area for more than 35 years. He resided in Streeterville for almost 15 years and had a summer home in Galena.

Mr. Glovka received a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1961 from the University of Iowa and a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1963.

After becoming a lawyer, Mr. Glovka continued to be involved with education. He had been an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at the Northwestern University School of Law and a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

During his almost 15-year tenure at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon, Mr. Glovka served as head of the firm's education committee. He helped teach the firm's new lawyers how to improve their trial techniques.

"He not only was a fine trial lawyer, but he also was a great teacher," said Jerry Esrick, a partner. "The younger lawyers really liked him, and us old guys liked him, too. He's really going to be missed."

Mr. Glovka also served on many committees in his neighborhood association.

He also was an avid bicyclist, scuba diver and sailor.

"When he passed away, he was doing what he loved best in the place he loved best," said his wife, Lynne.

Though he had a hectic schedule, he always found time for his family and friends, she said.

"He spent a lot of time with his family," Lynne Glovka said. "He was always telling jokes and making people laugh."

In addition to his wife, Mr. Glovka is survived by four daughters, Teri Ann Lindquist, Andrea Caldwell, Betty Jean Ahrens and Megan Glovka; his parents, Beryl Bennett and Paul Glovka; two brothers, Larry and Jim; two sisters, Carol Digby and Sheri Yamamoto; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 1035 N. Dearborn St., Chicago.
