He is survived by his mother; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Al Martin, all of San Antonio, Texas; two aunts, Mary Thorpe and her husband, Bob, of Berryville and Selma Caskey and her husband, Roy, of Clarksville, Tenn.; one nephew, Neil Martin, of Austin, Texas; and numerous cousins.
His grandparents, Rufus and Iva Baker, and Wayne and Mary Jane Payne and his dad, Pat Jim Baker Sr. preceded Jim in death.
Jim grew up in Texas and graduated from San Saba High School. He was a trucker for most of his life until he moved to Arkansas about twenty-four years ago. Since Jim had a driver's license to export explosives, he worked for a time on special effects on a Charlie Sheen movie. For the past 15 years, he has worked for the City of Heber Springs as Director of Sanitation. He took great pride in his work and had many friends in town and in his church. Jim never knew a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt and loved serving his Lord and working in His church.
Visitation will be held September 2 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Heber Springs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held September 3 at 2 p.m. at Heber Springs Church of Christ. Pallbearers are: Dennis Leisenring, Devin King, Louis Short, Johnie Richie, Marty Martelli, and Gary Cosby. Honorary pallbearers are: Albert Martin, Neil Martin, and Ray Brown.
