Obituary from Ellinwood Leader, 6 Jan 1938, p. 1--Handley--Mrs. Lottie Handley was born in Indiania, September 16, 1858 and passed away at Ellinwood, Kansas, Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, 1937, at the age of 79 years three months and thirteen days.
She accompanied her parents to Atchison county, Missouri, at an early age, where she was united in marriage to John E. [B] Handley. To this union eleven children were born. The couple then located in Brown County, Kansas, later moving to Nebraska, then to Vermillion, Kans. and then to Corning, Kansas. In 1914 the family moved to Manchester, Kansas, where in 1915, Mr. Handley passed away. Since then Mrs. Handley has made her home with her children.
The past few months she has made her home with her son, Will of Ness City and her son Cecil, of Ellinwood. A little over two weeks ago she accompanied her son Cecil here from Ness City, where she planned to spend some time. Mrs. Handley became ill a short time after she returned to Ellinwood.
Mrs. Handley is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Savage of Circleville, Kans., Mrs. Maud Bennett and Mrs. Nellie Smith of Abilene, Kans., Mrs. Edith Briggs of Halfway, Mo., Miss Ruth Handley of Manhattan, Kans., and five sons, Mr. Charles Handley, Los Angeles, Calif., Mr. Cecil Handley of Ellinwood, Kan., Mr. Bert Handley of Onaga, Kans., and Mr. Lee Handley of Lyons, Kans., Twenty-five grand children, seven great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, who met his death in an automobile accident in Kansas City a few years ago.
Funeral services were conducted from the Cecil Handley home at two o'clock and from the Evangelical church at two thirty o'clock. Rev. R. F. Richter officiated. Interment was made in the Ellinwood cemetery.
Relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Will Handley of Ness City, Mrs. Edith Briggs of Halfway, Mo., Miss Lila Mae Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, Mrs. Maud Bennett and Ollie Bennett all of Abilene, Mrs. Minnie Savage of Circleville, Kans., Laura and Clyde Savage and Mr. and Mrs. Ural Davis all of Goff, Kans., Miss Ruth Handley of Manhattan and Ray Smith of Longford, Kans.
