Velma passed away on June 18, 2006 after living for almost a century - 96+ years. She was a remarkable hardworking woman with patience and incredible endurance raising five children, two stepchildren, and most of the time doing this as a single Mom.
She loved reading, Lawrence Welk, traveling and children, and was talented at homemaking, sewing and handwork.
Born to George Lionel and Emma Yates Henson on December 30, 1909 in Lehi, Utah, she later moved to Lark, Utah where she attended Bingham High School. Here she met and married Alma Peter Hemmingsen.
She was a member of the LDS Church. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, four sisters, two daughters, JoAnn and Gayle, two stepdaughters, Mary Francis and Alma, and a great granddaughter Cassidy Austin. Survived by children Leora Austin (Bruce) Susan Marchant, Lionel, sister Fay Pearson, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A special thanks to the Murray Care Center staff for years of care to Mom.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy. (10600 S.) where friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment South Jordan City Cemetery.
