Susie Pauline Berry, 74, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away on July 22, 1994, at the Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. The daughter of Lawrence and Daisy Durham Dean, she was born on December 28, 1919, in Cairo, Missouri. Pauline graduated from high school in Cairo, Missouri, and then moved to Hannibal, Missouri, to work for International Shoe Company. On October 10, 1940, she married Ervin Berry in Hannibal, Missouri. She and her husband moved to south of Shelbina, Missouri, and began farming there in 1948. They later returned to the Hannibal area where they farmed and raised 18 foster children. In 1975 they moved west of Memphis to farm. Pauline and Ervin moved to Memphis in 1976, where she was involved in child care as long as her health permitted. Pauline was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Maxine. Survivors include her husband, Ervin, of Memphis, Missouri; two sons: Gene and wife, Janet, of Memphis, Missouri, Ernie and his wife, Regina, of Palmyra, Missouri; one sister, Berniece Ward of Hannibal, Missouri; three grandchildren: Jennifer Sue, of Memphis, Missouri, and Joey and Buddy of Palmyra, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held July 24, 1994, in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, Missouri, with the Reverend Bob Garringer officiating. Serving as pallbearers were J.R. Beer, Bill Harrelson, Vernon Howard, Butch Ahland, Hughie Cline, and Roy Boatman. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist, and Jimmy Brown, soloist. Interment was in the Brock Cemetery in Scotland County, Missouri. Memorials have been suggested to the family. Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis Chapel.
