Jemima F. Akins, age 99, passed away at the home of her granddaughter in Bradley, IL. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Sykes Funeral Home with Rev. John Justice officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Lone Oak Cemetery by her late husband Ed.

She was born in Montgomery County, TN. on January 16, 1915 to the late James Franklin and Myrtle Daisy Jarrell Pritchett. She was raised and educated in Lone Oak, TN., and on May 28, 1932, married James Edward Akins. Together, they moved to Wilmington, IL in 1950, where she became active in the Wilmington Women's Club, belonged to a quilter's guild and attend First Baptist Church of Wilmington. Jemima worked in the laundry department at Manteno State Hospital and later transferred to the Shapiro Center in Kankakee, from which she retired. She was an avid gardener who loved flowers and canning her harvests. Jemima was an outstanding cook and will be remembered for her seven layer cakes.

Survivors include one son, two daughters-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Jemima was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ed (1988), 5 children, 1 grandson, 1 great-granddaughter, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jemima's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl 17, Chicago, IL., 60601
