Daughter of John B. Welch and his unknown first wife, who died by 1841. John B. Welch married second, Margaret M. Stone in Barry County, Missouri 22 May 1841. The Welches moved to Texas with the Stone family circa 1843.
California married James W. Hawes in Freestone County, Texas 13 Mar 1855.

Jeremiah "Jerry" M. Hawes m. (1) Elizabeth Ann Lucius, (2) Etta M. Peacock
James W, Hawes enlisted in Company I, Young's 12th Texas Infantry Regiment in May 1862. The last info I've found for him was - "Dec 26, 1862, Died of disease, Little Rock". Records show that over 640 Confederate soldiers who were buried at Mt. Holly Cemetery, were re-interred at Fort Smith National Cemetery in 1884. James W. Hawes is probably among them.
California married second, Rev. Samuel Lee Bryant, in Freestone County 13 Sep 1865.
