Velma Acord, 74, of Poteau died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Van Buren, AR. to Finis Melton and Emma Sylvia (Bernard) Ewing. She was a real estate loan closer for Adams Abstract Company in Poteau. She was preceded in death by two sons, Reginald and Robert Accord; eight brothers, Evan, Glen, E.T., Goodlow, Red, Charles, Doug and Jack Ewing; and her parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Renneckar of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a son, Greg Acord of Poteau; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Adams of Wister and Sally Barker of Fort Smith; two brothers, Bill Ewing of Fort Smith and Thell Ewing of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; a host of beloved friends.
