US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Allan enlisted into the US Army on October 3, 1873, in Boston, MA. Allan was described as 25 yrs old, 5'-8 1/2" brown eyes, black hair with a dark complexion. His listed civilian occupation was watchmaker. On October 21, 1873, Allan reported for duty at Ft Rice, Dakota Territory. He was assigned to Company C, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. Company C was commanded by two time Medal of Honor recipient and brother of LTC George A Custer, Captain Tom Custer. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Captain Custer was assigned as Aide-de-Camp for his brother. Therefore, 2nd Lt Henry Harrington assumed command of Company C. Sometime during the fighting Allan was killed.
After the battle 15 soldiers from Company C, including two sergeants, were found near Calhoun Ridge. Lakota/Cheyenne eyewitness accounts of the battle and artifacts from archeological digs revealed that Company C appeared to have maintained a good skirmish line under heavy fire. Allan's body was not listed as being identified. It is likely that his unidentified remains were buried where they had been found on the battlefield. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
