PEORIA - Stanley Wilson Alcorn, 84, of Phoenix, formerly of Peoria, died at 6:21
a.m. Monday, March 13, 2000, at Arizona State Veterans Home in Phoenix.
Born July 25, 1915, in Peoria to James and Annie Mary McCloskey Alcorn, he
married Margaret Elizabeth Foster on Aug. 13, 1941, in St. Louis.
Surviving are one son, David of Sandy, Utah; one daughter, Melanie Christensen
of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Mae Alcorn of East Peoria and Irene ''Renie''
Moeller of Peoria; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James, on July 10, 1961; and one sister.
A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phoenix, he was a World War II
Army Air Forces veteran and served in the Air Force during the Korean War and
the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force as a major in October 1968.
He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1939, where he was a member of
Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and the Varsity I Association, earning a varsity
letter in swimming.
He taught in Peoria from 1940 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1947. He was an insurance
agent from 1947 to 1952. He later was an assistant basketball coach and taught
at Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Ariz.
He officiated prep/college basketball and football games.
He was a 32nd degree mason and a life member of Masonic Lodge 43 in Scottsdale.
He also was a member of the Scottish Rite Free Masonry.
Graveside services were held March 17 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in
