Mrs. Lydia W. Culler of East State Street has received word that her son, Eugene Culler, who is with the United States Navy and has been stationed in Spain on the USS Haifield since last August, has returned to the United States. Mr. Culler arrived in Philadelphia today. He has recently been serving as a member of the crew of the USS Belfridge. Throughout the past 16 years Mrs. Culler and her son have had only two meetings but are anticipating a reunion now that the navy man is back in this country.

Arthur Eugene Culler, 45, son of Mrs. Lydia Culler 3553 Walters Street, Hammond, has been stationed at Pearl Harbor since December 12, 1941, five days after the sneak attack by the Japs, as a member of the first consignment of navy men to be sent to the Hawaiian base. He holds the valuable position of Chief Master Mechanic in the ship repair yards at Pearl Harbor navel base.
When Mrs. Culler visited her son shortly before his transfer to the south Pacific it was the third time she had seen him in 23 years, the period of his service with the navy. His wife is working in an airplane factory in San Diego, California.

Following 24 years service, Chief Master Mechanic Arthur E. Culler, son of Mrs. L.W. Culler, 819 Morris Avenue Hammond, was released from the navy on July 18 at San Diego, California. Enlisted at Great Lakes in August, 1921, Culler was assigned to the Pacific theater, serving his last 30 months overseas at the Pearl Harbor ship years. Later he was transferred to San Diego. Now employed in Civil service at North, Island, California. Culler is residing in San Dieo with his wife, Margaret.

Arthur Culler, 50, chief machinist's mate, USN, ret., of 3128 Chamoune Avenue, died yesterday in Naval Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in Bonham Brothers Mortuary. Burial will follow in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery. Chief Culler retired in 1943 after 22 years of Navy service. He since had been employed as a civilian machinist at the Naval Air Station 5 years. He was born in VIrginia, IL, and had resided here 16 years. He was a member of San Diego Lodge 168, B.P.O.E. and the Good Sports Club.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Culler, of San Diego; a brother Wilber Culler and a sister, Mrs. Eunice Sponsler, both of Illinois.
