|Lewis Parker Billings|
|Birth: ||Jan. 30, 1815|
|Death: ||Sep., 1871|
Son of William Billings and Lucretia Parker.
On many documents, Lewis was listed as Lewis P. Billings 2nd. Lewis was not a II; his father's name was William and Lewis was the first of his name, his mother's maiden name being Parker. Why Lewis sometimes referred to himself with a suffix is unknown. Perhaps he simply thought that adding the suffix made him seem more dignified.
Lewis and his first wife, Elizabeth, shared a surname before marriage. There is no indication that they were closely related, if related at all.
Some genealogical researchers indicate that Lewis died 15 Aug 1900 at Saugatuck, Michigan, which is erroneous. There is no evidence to suggest that Lewis even visited that place. Evergreen Memorial Cemetery District records clearly indicate that he died and was buried in 1871 at Bloomington.
It seems that the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery District lists some death dates as burial dates. Burial date of 26 Sep 1871 may actually be the date of death.
In addition to the children linked here, Lewis and Elizabeth had one more: William Henry Billings, born 15 May 1850 at Sharon, Massachusetts. He was unmarried and living with his stepmother as late as the 1880 U.S. census enumeration. After that census, he seemingly disappears. Evergreen Memorial Cemetery District does not seem to have a record of his burial there. What became of him is unknown.
