"Old Resident Dies after long illness: Richard Burns came to Plainview from Michigan in Year 1878 - funeral conducted on Tuesday. Richard Burns, familiar to nearly every citizen of Plainview, passed way at his home on Saturday afternoon at four o'clock after an illness of over two years, death being due to a complication of diseases.
George Richard Burns was born in McCutcheonville, Wood County, OH Mar. 9, 1863, the son of William and Julia Burns. In 1868 he, with his parents moved to Michigan and in 1878 he came to Minnesota, where he has since resided. In 1891 he was united in marriage to Bertha Slawson of Elgin, and to this union three children were born, one passing away in infancy.
Deceased was an honest up-right citizen, a kind friend and loyal neighbor, ready and willing to help those needy and deserving and his death brings sincere sorrow to many citizens who had known him. He was a kind, devoted, loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, two children, Earl of Beloit, Wis., Nina at home, three granddaughters and one brother, Louis now living in Marenisco, Michigan.
Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, C.F. Martin, and interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery." (Obituary, Jun. 5, 1925, "Plainview News," provided by Bonnie Pehrson)
