H.M. CROCKETT
DIES IN HOME
IDEAL LAUNDRY COMPANY
HEAD SUCCUMBS TO ILLNESS.
Local Resident, Member of Old
Family Here, Survived by Wife
and Four Children.
Harrison M. Crockett, president of the Ideal Laundry & Dry Cleaning company, passed away in his residence, 326 West Navarre street, at 9 o'clock this morning [Monday, 28 Feb 1927] following a long period of ill health and a stroke of apoplexy sustained Dec. 2.
Mr. Crockett came from one of the oldest families in the city. He was a son of Harrison [Marion] Crockett who for many years and until his death resided at 430 South Michigan street where the Crocket home is still standing. He was born May 25, 1863, on the site of the present Pythian building at Lafayette and Jefferson boulevards. His education was obtained in the South Bend public schools and he lived in the city until 1885 when he went to Pullman, Ill., where he was employed by the Pullman company for several years.
Returning to South Bend in 1897 he resided in the Crockett home. For 16 years he traveled for the Studebaker Bros. Manufacturing company, now the Studebaker corporation, and for the Miller-Knoblock Wagon company, which went out of existence years ago. In his early years Mr. Crockett was intensely interested in baseball. He will be remembered as one of the players with the well known South Bend Green Stockings. He also played with the Pullman club, the Chicago Aetnas and with the St. Paul, Minn., team for one season, under the note [noted] Comisky.
In 1907 Mr. Crockett started the Ideal Laundry company. It soon became a success and grew in size and business until it is one of the leading concerns of the kind in northern Indiana. With the laundry dry cleaning was taken on and the name changed to the Ideal Laundry & Dry Cleaning company. Mr. Crockett remained the active, energetic head until overcome by ill health.
Mr. Crockett was married July 6, 1897, in Chicago to Miss Antionette Heiser, formerly of South Bend. Besides the wife he leaves four children all living in South Bend. There are Harrison, Jr. [Harrison Heisel Crockett], Miss Antoinette, Miss Marigrace [Mary Grace] and [John] Edward.
