THis is a memorial to my uncle, the eldest brother of my great great grandfather, Edward Holliday. Robert was the oldest of 3 sons: Edward and Abraham (who is also listed as Abram in other records) were his brothers. His mother, who may have been Cherokee and/or African American, is Mary Holliday. According to his death certificate, his father is listed as Robert Ovell. Ovell may have been a COnfederate captain. Both were born in the 1830's. Robert married Amanda Chestnutt. Census records between about 1880 and 1910 list Robert's occupation as blacksmith. According to census records, they had 11 children:
Robert Jr (b. 1875); Charles (b. 1877); Walter (b. 1879); Absalom (b. 1881); Annie (b. 1884); Floyd (b. 1887); George (b. 1889); Norman (b. 1891); and Ralph and Raymond (b. 1894; possibly were twins) and Lymon (b. 1896).
