Lu W. "Rudy" Akin went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 3, 2013.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10 in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Proctor of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Rudy was born August 28, 1927 to Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Wallis of Melissa, Texas. She attended Celina High School and graduated from Dallas Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She continued her post-graduate study at Margaret Hague Maternity in Jersey City at the New Jersey Medical Center.

On December 12, 1949, Rudy married Bernard "Bud" Powell Akin in San Angelo, Texas and they spent 59 beautiful years of marriage together loving and supporting each other and raising their family. Rudy was a longtime and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo where she taught in the primary department Sunday school and was also a co-teacher of the Friendship Class.

Mrs. Akin worked as Director of In-Service Education at Shannon Hospital while attaining her B.S. in Nursing through the University of Texas Nursing College. She continued to work in all phases of nursing throughout her career: office nursing as well as with the mentally challenged at the San Angelo Center.

Rudy had been a member of the Junior League of San Angelo and also spent time as a member of the San Angelo Country Club Women's Golf Association. She especially loved spending time with her family at their Bois D' Arc Ranch south of Christoval. Rudy was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge with her long time friends. She was also a sports enthusiast and was often heard "officiating" from her favorite chair.

Mrs. Akin was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clyde Wallis Jr.; two sisters, Marie Merritt and Dorothy Tidwell; and her beloved husband, "Bud" Akin.

She is survived by her son, Galen Akin and wife Tony of Christoval; her daughter Lu Akin and her long time companion Adrian Feldman of St. Petersburg, FL; her grandson Chase Akin and wife Jamie of San Angelo; great granddaughter Driskell Akin; brother Truitt Wallis of Plano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
