In 1840 he left home and went to Laporte Co., IN, where he married Miss Sarah A. Bates. In 1843, he removed to Berrien Co., MI and in 1853 he came to CA and followed mining n El Dorado Co. until 1856. From there he went to Napa Co., where he was joined by his family in the spring of 1857. He lived there three years and moved to Suisun, Solano Co., where he followed the dairy business.

In 1862, he became a resident of Dayton, NV and engaged in hotel keeping and general business until the fall of 1865, when he settled in Capay Valley on what was known as the B. F. Duncan farm, up the valley from Langville. In 1874 he laid out the town site of Langville, where he resided and owned about half of the town. He had a son E. B. , and a daughter Cyntha A.

The Passing of a Pioneer of Capay Valley

The Funeral Tuesday Morning at 10 O'clock and Internment in Odd Fellow's Cemetery. After a long illness J. W. Aldrich of Capay died Sunday evening Sept 28th at 8 o'clock. The funeral will take place at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, and internment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Capay.

Survived by his wife, daughter Cynthia A. Woods resides in Fairfield, Solano Co. and E. B. Aldrich of Yolo Co., both were with their father when he died.

Mr. Aldrich was a man of kindly nature, warm-hearted and generous, and his domestic relations were of the pleasantest character. The announcement of his death has be received with feelings of deep regret and profound sorrow. [Excerpt of Obit- follows same as Bio in The Illustrated Atlas and History of Yolo Co., CA 1879]
