Walter T. McAvoy, 79, 19 Forest Street, died Monday morning at his home following a long illness.
A native of Lowell, Mr. McAvoy came to this city as a child and until his retirement in 1937 as a acction hand he had been employed for 30 years in the Arlington Mills. He attended St. Mary's church and was a member of the Holy Name society of that parish.
He leaves three sons, Walter of Lawrence, Wilfred McAvoy, a retired Lawrence fireman and Edward McAvoy of New Jersey, two daughters Rose, wife of Edward Eliott and Catherine, wife of Thomas Lawrence, both of Lawrence, also 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday from the John Breen Memorial funeral home 6 Tremont Street with a high Mass of requiem at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's church. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception cemetery.
