| Birth: | Feb. 16, 1922 | | Death: | Jan. 12, 2005 | Salvatore Alfredo Pacino was the father of acclaimed oscar-winning actor Al Pacino. He was born to Sicilian immigrants in East Harlem, NY on February 16th 1922. Sal was said to be a colorful and bright man who lived life to the fullest! It was said that everybody who knew him loved him! He dropped out of school at age 15 after meeting Rose Gerard, 20, and falling in love, according to his Web site, www.salpacino.com . They got married when Sal was 17, and a year later Rose gave birth to Alfred "Al" Pacino. But the couple separated soon after and the divorce split father and son for years. Sal left New York for the military when Al was 3 and later moved to Covina, California in the early 1950's. The two stayed in touch and visited occasionally, but for a long time were not that close. As time went on though, they were. He eventually remarried, taking a job with Metropolitan Life, where he worked as an insurance salesman for 30 years. He retired in 1981. He married Katherine Kovin, his fifth wife, in 1995. Pacino was survived by one son, Al, and four daughters, Josette, Roberta, Paula and Desiree. "He loved Al," Kovin-Pacino said. "He was so proud of his son and his daughters." Al Pacino's publicist did not release a statement regarding Sal Pacino's death. Al Pacino is well-known to be a very sensitive and private person and probably wanted his thoughts and feelings about his father's passing to himself. People often commented that Sal must've been 300 years old when they hear how many different things he did in his lifetime. He once owned Pacino's Lounge, a restaurant, hotel and bar in downtown Covina that closed in 1992. He used to entertain the patrons by singing, dancing and performing comedic material every night. He was said to be charming, witty and quite funny. Sal Pacino also became active in the entertainment industry. He was also a member of Silver Foxes, parents of stars fighting negative stereotypes about aging and advocating for an active, healthy lifestyles. He died on January 12th, 2005 at the age of 82 of a massive heart attack.
